Homework Assignment #1- Create an Infographic

Homework Assignment #2 - Shakespeare Matchmaking

Homework Assignment #3 - Direct a scene

This assignment is much easier than first appears to be, and it is fun!

For this activity:

  • Have your students sign up for a free account using Piktochart.com.

  • Tell them to use one of the free templates.

  • Have the students create the infographic around a specific play or topic you are covering in class. It is best to leave the assignment a bit open ended so that the students have room to be creative.

  • Finally, have the students present their creations to the class!

For reference, please check out our page on Shakespeare infographics by clicking here.

Have students use this website as a resource for this particular assignment.

For this assignment:

  • Have your students cast their own production of whatever Shakespeare play you are studying in class.

  • Tell your students to use the website to see how each of these characters within the play of your choice have been played.

  • Have them create a "cast" by listing each characterization they would chose for each character (i.e. Hamlet "powerful", Ophelia "innocent," Claudius "remorseful," etc.).

  • After they have created their own cast, have them write a short, 250-500 word, paper about why they cast the play this way and what they hope the audience takes away from their production.

Pick out a scene from any Shakespeare play. Make sure that the scene is at least substantive in length and that it has enough action to make this assignment flourish.

For this assignment:

  • Have your students write a detailed essay depicting the stage actions in a scene.

  • Ask you students to tell us how the stage looks during this scene and what the characters are wearing.

  • Do the characters move throughout the scene? What do their gestures look like? How do their expressions change?

  • More importantly have your students write about how they think the characters feel throughout the scene. Are they hurt by what other characters say to them? Angry? etc.

  • This assignment should be around 1000 words in length.
