The Claudius that we are introduced to in Michael Almereyda's 2000 production is one that has just assumed power of his brothers company. While this adaption turns Denmark (country) into Denmark (company), Claudius is still deemed Political since business has taken the place of politics in this production.  Claudius is constantly accompanied by cell phone in hand, wearing a suit, and surrounded by body guards giving the impression that he is very consumed by the business.

Reviews

“Mr. MacLachlan's Claudius has a hail-fellow-well-met shallowness, a blandness tinged with creeping ambition.”
